Lee Boynton

Currently Senior Developer at eDigitalResearch, a market research company based in Hedge End, UK. I also help organise meet ups for PHPHants, a PHP user group for Hampshire, UK. I consider myself to be a "full stack" developer with experience of both backend and frontend development, as well as Linux server administration.

Senior Developer at eDigitalResearch

  • As part of a team, and through the use of PHP, Zend Framework and PostgreSQL, developed interactive community websites for various brands
  • Review code developed by other members of the team

  • Helped build frontend components in AngularJS for eDigitalResearch's survey platform
October 2009 - January 2014

Web Developer at Symbios Group

  • Lead developer of instant messaging applications using XMPP, such as web-based multi-user chat room and one-to-one messaging facility. Included building JavaScript frontends and making custom modifications to open source software in various languages, such as erlang and python.
  • System administration of RedHat-based servers. Introduced the use of puppet to greatly speed up provisioning and maintaining servers.
  • Advocated and helped develop the use of best software development practices amongst the development team to improve overall code quality, such as test driven development, continuous integration, code review and bug tracking.
  • Oversaw migration from SVN to git for new development, helping the development team with any problems.
  • Made improvements to existing websites, such as incorporating a centralised error logging and reporting system.


October 2008 - September 2009 Merit in MSc Software Engineering from The University of Portsmouth Postgraduate degree involved units on web programming (Java, hibernate), database design, Windows application development (C#), design patterns. Individual project consisted of the development of a Java-based desktop application for visualising wave patterns in the heart, and for simulating conditions such as arrhythmia.
October 2005 - June 2008 1st Class Honours in BSc Internet Technology from The University of Portsmouth Undergraduate degree covered topics on a variety of subjects including Java, C and PHP programming, system administration, system security and distributed web systems. Final year project was the development of a desktop instant messaging application with streaming audio features (Java, XMPP).
September 2003 - June 2005 Distinction Distinction Merit in BTEC Level 3 National Diploma for IT Practitioners at Isle of Wight College Also completed City & Guilds Level 2 Diploma for IT Users with grade distinction.
September 2000 - July 2003 Sandown High School 9 GCSEs including Mathematics grade B, Science grade B and English grade C.
